Our Restaurant
Over view of Soulton DiningDining at Soulton Hall is friendly and relaxed, in a traditional and romantic setting. We farm the land around us, and so have an interest in food from field to table (the short slideshow below will give a quick look at the farm and gardens)!
He have a growing reputation for quality food within our Cheshire/Shropshire area. Many of our diners have been coming for years. Indeed (although exceptionally) some recent non-residents travelled 160 miles for dinner, and we are now looking forward to their wedding next year.
We have been honoured to be the venue for some important family celebrations, and more than a couple of engagements have begun here...
Home Produce (...and our food's provenance)
Our menu changes every day. We think this is an important discipline. It is certainly -- as you'll know -- an unusual one.
Quality food starts with its ingredients. Soulton is a working farm, as well as welcoming its guests and diners, and this exposure means we are all ardent about using quality home and local produce (Chefs Justin and Ann, as well as gardeners Terry, Ray and Pete will all tell you this). We really mean it. Here is a picture of some of our home produce in June 2011 (Terry, our Veg Gardener took these himself):
The farming here also allows us to serve some of our own meat from time to time (rabbit, pheasant, duck, pigeon and very occasionally beef from cows born here). Where we can't keep up with demand, there are super food producers in Shropshire who supply us. Learn more about this here.
Atmosphere
Parts of Soulton Hall are 1,000 years old, and we have three very special dining rooms.
Dinners are nearly always served in candlelight, either:
in the elegent Lydia-Grace Room, with crystal chandelier, and huge stone mullioned windows looking over the gardens where some of the food being served was grown (this is the room used most frequently);
in the Mediæval Buttery, with massive inglenook dating from the 1300s
or in the Long Room in Soulton Court, with 6 French doors and opening on to a huge lavender terrace and the white garden; with its own bar, this is mostly used for private events
Click here to learn more about private dining. There is narmally a separate charge made for this service.
Traditional yet Friendly DiningBefore dinner, our guest will normally have a drink in the bar or perhaps the gardens, order their dinner and relax while it is cooked to order.
Dinner is four courses (to begin, a starter; followed by sorbet with sparkling wine; then the main course; and finally a desert).
After dinner guests withdraw to the Hall, welcomed by sofas complementary coffee, home made petit fours and a log fire in season.
Perhaps you will have noticed our rather traditional expectation that guests move through a set of rooms over the evening. This time-honoured approach to dinner helps you to relax; it' sadly not now common with restaurants prizing volumes over experiance and unhurried relaxation.
WineThe 700 year old cellars at Soulton Hall hold an interesting collection of wines to enjoy with your meal. These are realistically priced.
