A stately bolt-hole amidst the rolling Shropshire Hills
This stately red brick Elizabethan manor house is situated on a 500-acre estate of working farmland and ancient oak woods, which are carpeted with bluebells in spring. It has been in the Ashton family since 1556 and they are understandably proud of its fascinating heritage.
Today, Soulton Hall is a delightful escape where you can spend your days relaxing by a fire, wandering through the medieval walled gardens and exploring the wider estate complete with meandering river. If in need of further distraction there are numerous historic houses, gardens and interesting pretty villages dotted around the surrounding Shropshire countryside.
The bedrooms in the main hall are sizeable and have many original features such as open beams, fire places, mullion windows and original oak panelling. Alternatively, guests can choose to stay in the Carriage House, the Garden Rooms or the self contained Cedar Lodge, which features a four-poster.
The estate provides the hall with vegetables and soft fruit and, occasionally, with game and foul too. Otherwise, produce is largely sourced from within the county from suppliers known and approved by the Ashtons. Dinner is an elegant affair – usually served by candlelight in the beautiful Lydia-Grace Room.
