Conservation Agriculture - "No Till"

We practice 'no-til' or conservation agriculture over the majorty of our farm. The principles of this system of farming are explained in this video by Dr Simon Jeffery of Harper Adams which touches on reserch he did with us on this farm

This is a form of farming which looks after soil health and biodiversity as well as targeting the storage of carbon in soils.  It involves seeking to eliminate cultivation (ploughing) and establishes crops by carefully placing seeds exactly where they would like to be, without disturbing the delicate balance of the soil.

In recent years the farm at Soulton has had a stronger and deeper focus on soil heath, indeed the farm was visited by Rt Hon Micheal Gove MP as Secretary of State to take this conversation forward in 2017.

This was a conversation we took farward with by Rt Hon Micheal Gove MP as Secretary of State in 2017:

Possibily the most convenient way of learning more about this apraoch is to watch this video of a lecture given by a farmer called Gabe Brown who farms in the United States.
